I have put all I have read in Chapter 1 of “Mirror of True Womanhood” to good use this week. I have made an extra attempt to be gentle and graceful in manner to all those around me.
1.) I have tried very hard to say “Blessed Be the Name of God” before saying something that would come across “snappy.” It has helped me very much indeed.
2.) I have made every effort to get in a Chaplet of Divine Mercy everyday.
3.) I have started asking the intercession of Saint Anne and Saint Elizabeth of Hungry to help me to grow in virtue. Especially that of patience.
4.) I have kept in mind how much a cheerful and warm expression can do to lift everyone’s hearts and bring peace to the home.
5.) I have used Holy Water everyday everywhere in my home.
What have you done this week to show that warmth of spirit to your loved ones? I would love to hear!
Don’t forget to start Chapter 2!
It is finally here! The book discussion of “The Mirror of True Womanhood.” For anyone just reading about this now, you can download the book for free in pdf format here.
Since I would like any new people to be given the chance to start with us, I am going to give everyone time to read Chapter 1.
Here is the “assignment” for Chapter 1.
1.) Read all of Chapter 1. It is about 11 pages long.
2.) Read the following quote and either write down two ways or keep in mind two ways you can start to “brighten and beautify all things” merely by the facial expressions you use with your family. We are the ones to teach our family how to love and to be patient. Often a “snappy” look can bring someone’s joy and peace crashing down around them.
3.) Attempt to make an extra effort one time this coming week to make your husband and family feel that extra “light and beauty ” of your love.
4.) You may leave comments throughout the week on your progress, questions, suggestions, or any part of chapter 1 that really made you think. The more people who join in on the comments, the more we can learn from each other and help support each other.
5.) Next Thursday I will sum up Chapter 1 and my own progress before starting Chapter 2!
Sadly, with today’s economy, many, many people are severely struggling with money. Many people are out of jobs or under-employed. Many people also have the added burden of debt from college and still can’t find a job. It is very scary.
I like to think that I am fairly frugal when it comes to my grocery budget. I know I could be more frugal, but I do the best that I can with what I have. I know that many people coupon, and I do too, occasionally. I used to coupon more, but where I live only a few stores take coupons and none of them double any value of coupons. For me, in my circumstance, it isn’t worth the .50 cents off of a name brand product when I can buy another brand for $1.00 less not on sale.
For all of you who can’t do couponing to any great measure, don’t despair. I have some ideas for you that have helped me tremendously throughout the years.
1.) Know what you have in your pantry, freezer, and refrigerator.
It may not be much, but that is ok.
2.) Write down every grocery item you have in your home with space in between each item,
* 2 pounds Bread Flour
* 2 (16oz) Cans of Chopped Tomato
3.) After you have everything written down, write what you would like to make with each product under its heading. Look through your list of what you have, you might write down the same things under different products; make sure to see my example of how I handle this. If you don’t have all the ingredients to make an item, note what you need next to it. For example:
2 pounds Bread Flour
– 1 pound bread loaf
– 1 dozen sweet muffins — need: 3 eggs
– 8 stuffed pretzels -need 8oz of shredded cheese.
4.) After you are done, tally up what you need to buy vs what you have. Make a separate list of what you need to buy. Below I have given an example of what I have in my house and what I would need to buy.

Once you have made your list of what you can make with certain food items, KEEP IT! It will be such a relief to you when you don’t know what to make later down the road. All you have to do is look at your list and you will probably have enough of something on hand to make a couple of frugal foods.
Hail Thou Star of Ocean
Hail thou star of ocean
Portal of the sky
Ever virgin Mother
Of the Lord Most High
O! by Gabriel’s Ave
Uttered long ago,
Eva’s name reversing,
Established peace below
Break the captives’ fetters,
Light on blindness pour,
All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore
Show thyself a Mother,
Offer Him our sighs,
Who for us incarnate
Did not thee despise
Virgin of all virgins
To thy shelter take us,
Gentlest of the gentle
Chaste and gentle make us
Still, as on we journey,
Help our weak endeavor,
Till with thee and Jesus
We rejoice forever
Through the highest heaven,
To the almighty Three
Father, Son, and Spirit,
One same glory be.
